At Rcedutalent, we are passionate about sharing the inspiring journeys of innovators who are creating real impact in people’s lives. Today, we spotlight Dr. I. Fortune Glavee, who is a dedicated dentist, entrepreneur, and the visionary founder of 10 Pound Challenges.
From witnessing preventable dental issues to building a global movement that promotes healthy, affordable, and tooth-friendly cooking, Dr. Glavee opens up about her mission, community-driven approach, and how simple choices can transform family health.
What inspired you to start 10 Pound Challenges, and how did the idea come to life?
One day went to work and noticed a lot of children being put to sleep to remove decayed teeth. Dental decay is preventable. I noticed high sugar consumption was the root cause. During World War 2, there was less tooth decay because there was sugar rationing, that is why I set up 10poundchallenges.com to encourage families to cook from scratch using 10 pounds. Building 10poundchallenges.com is to encourage families to share recipes, educate, and support one another.
How has your background as a dentist helped you create healthy and “tooth-friendly” meal plans?
Based on my understanding, which I will explain in simple language. Do you know that when bacteria in the mouth feed on sugar in the food, it produce acid which attacks the teeth. Hence, using the above information it can help you plan meals.
What are the biggest challenges people face when trying to eat healthy on a small budget, and how do you help them overcome those?
Thinking about cooking from scratch is expensive. It is about the mindset and support. Hence, I am building a platform for like-minded people to come together as a community to support one another and change mindsets regards cooking.
How do you use technology or online tools to make your program more effective and easier to follow?
Building a platform of like-minded people to connect and support one another.
How important is community support in your program, and how do you keep people motivated to stay consistent?
By building a learning platform to share your recipes.
What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs who are starting their own business or project like yours?
Network and get a Mentor.
What are your future plans for 10 Pound Challenges — are there any new features or ideas coming soon?
Future plans to go global. The new feature will be to challenge people to vote for a recipe every 6 months. The winning recipe will be published on the 10poundchallenges.com website.
